A bed skirt finishes the bed's appearance and can hide items stored underneath. The right size and a fabric that suits the room create the polished feel of a luxury hotel. This guide covers choosing a model, measuring, fitting and care.
Why is a bed skirt part of a well-made bed?
Its main role is to complete the appearance of the bed. It conceals the base and, depending on the chosen drop, the legs, creating a coordinated and tidy whole. A bed skirt can help the bed feel like an intentional part of the room's design.
The skirt can neatly conceal suitcases and storage boxes beneath the bed. Leave enough room for storage, cleaning and airflow around the bed. A bed skirt does not replace cleaning underneath.
How do you choose the right bed skirt?
Keep three things in mind: the bed's construction, accurate measurements and a fabric and style that suit the room. Getting these basics right makes the finished result much easier to achieve.
Identify your bed type first
Not every bed skirt fits every bed. The construction determines where and how it can be fitted.
Continental beds and divan bases: The No Problem Hotel bed skirt is a full-cover design with a stretch top panel that sits over a mattress layer. Its product instructions place it over the divan mattress and under the topper. Continental bed layers can vary, so confirm the correct fitting level and measurements when ordering.
Bed frames with a separate mattress: For a separate bed frame, check whether there is a suitable fitting level and whether the skirt will fall outside the frame as intended. No Problem Hotel is made to measure, but it is not suitable for adjustable electric beds. If the bed has moving parts or its construction is unclear, confirm suitability with our customer service before ordering.
Measure accurately: width, length and drop
Measure the drop from the level where the bed skirt will sit down to the floor, then subtract your preferred floor clearance. For No Problem Hotel, we recommend roughly 3–5 cm at home and about 10 cm in accommodation settings to make cleaning easier. This helps keep the hem off the floor when the bed compresses slightly in use.
Measure the exact width and length of the mattress layer to be covered too, rather than relying only on its nominal size. No Problem Hotel bed skirts are made to measure; customer service can also help with dimensions not shown in the selector.
Fabric and style complete the look
Choose fabric and colour in relation to the rest of the room. The bed skirt can blend in quietly or become a considered detail.
Fabric: For No Problem Hotel, choose an upholstery fabric according to use and feel. Sawana is a firm, densely woven option; Stella feels a little softer. Vogue is an option for a velvet-like appearance. Compare Enjoy New Lux, Thomas, Rhytm and Storm too, and coordinate with your bedding. Our showroom offers a wider fabric selection to explore.
Style: A smooth, straight skirt gives a modern, restrained appearance. Pleated or gathered designs add softness and can suit a more traditional or romantic room.
Colour: A neutral shade such as white, grey or beige coordinates with many duvet covers and bedspreads. You can also match the skirt to the headboard or wall for a calm, unified effect. A contrasting colour can make the bed a stronger focal point.
Measure the drop again after changing bed legs
If you change the legs or move the valance to another bed, recheck the drop. The old size label may still match width and length even though the skirt height no longer fits. Measure once the final bed arrangement is in place.
Fitting and caring for a bed skirt
Straighten the skirt before fitting and iron or steam only if the chosen fabric's care instructions permit it. Lift the relevant mattress layer with another person's help, lay the top panel flat and lower the mattress again. Check the drop and corner placement on every visible side.
No Problem Hotel bed skirt fabrics can be washed on a gentle programme at a maximum of 40 °C. Still follow the instructions supplied with the chosen fabric for drying and finishing. Clean beneath the bed regularly and check that the hem stays clear of the floor in use.
Frequently asked questions
Can a bed skirt be used on a continental bed?
Yes, when the model, fitting level and measurements suit the bed's construction. No Problem Hotel is a made-to-measure, full-cover bed skirt. On a tall continental bed, confirm where it will sit before measuring the drop. This model is not suitable for adjustable electric beds.
How do I measure for a bed skirt?
Measure the width and length of the mattress layer to be covered and the distance from the fitting level to the floor. Subtract the clearance you want; for No Problem Hotel at home, we recommend roughly 3–5 cm. Give the finished skirt drop when ordering, not just the distance to the floor.
Must the bed skirt match the duvet cover?
No. A neutral colour such as white or grey works with many bedding combinations. You can also tie the room together by coordinating the skirt with the headboard, bedspread or curtains.
How do I keep the bed skirt straight and tidy?
Choose accurate measurements and lay the top panel evenly. No Problem Hotel's stretch top and inward corner pleats help the skirt sit neatly. Iron or steam only if the fabric's care label permits it. If the skirt shifts, check fitting and suitability with customer service first.
