A headboard does not always need to attach to the wall or bed. There are three main methods: standing it between the bed and wall, mounting it on the wall, or attaching it to the bed frame. The correct method depends on the individual headboard's construction and instructions.
Three ways to install a headboard
Follow the manufacturer's design. Even a floor-standing headboard may need attachment: TEMPUR's instructions, for example, secure its floor-standing models to the bed's bolts. The table uses products from Sisustus1 as practical examples.

Without fixings: a simple option for suitable models
No Problem Hotel HB V and No Problem Hotel HB Cambridge are models whose product instructions allow installation without fixings. They can also accompany a bed bought elsewhere when the dimensions and placement are suitable.
- Read the model's instructions and fit any compatible legs ordered with it.
- Position the headboard against the wall on a level floor and centre it behind the bed.
- Move the bed into place so the headboard remains stable between them. Allow for skirting boards and the wall's shape.
- Check for rocking, tilting or sliding. If it is unstable, ask for a suitable solution before use.
Check stability again after moving the bed or cleaning. An unattached headboard is not suitable in the middle of a room without purpose-designed support. Keep the moving parts of an adjustable bed unobstructed.
Wall mounting: choose the position and height
HB XI mounts on the wall at the chosen height and does not take legs. HB XIX-K also requires wall mounting according to its product instructions. The option to add legs does not automatically remove the need for wall attachment.
Choose fittings for the wall material, headboard weight and manufacturer's instructions. Plasterboard, concrete and timber require different solutions. Check for cables and pipes before drilling; use an installer if the wall or required fittings are unclear.
Bed-frame mounting: check compatibility
HB IV attaches to the frame according to its product instructions. Establish the bed model, attachment-point positions and required parts before ordering. Matching widths alone do not ensure that bolts or brackets fit. Floor-standing and fixing-free are not interchangeable terms.

Must every tall headboard be fixed to the wall?
Height alone does not decide this. The construction and installation instructions do. If the model requires attachment, do not leave it unattached.
Can I use a headboard without legs?
Many of our models allow this, but check the product page. Legs also affect the final height and potentially the installation.
