What is the difference between bed types?
- Continental beds combine a lower base, a separate spring mattress and a mattress topper to form a layered bed.
- Divan beds contain the frame and spring system in the same component. The choice of mattress topper depends on what is included with the model.
- Adjustable beds offer electrically adjustable head and foot ends.
- Hotel beds bring models designed for hotel use into the home as well. In terms of construction, a hotel bed can be a continental bed or a divan bed, for example.
How to choose bed size and firmness
Choose the width according to the number of sleepers, your preferences and the room's dimensions. Also allow for the bed's length, space to move around it and the space needed for the headboard. Firmness labels are model-specific, so compare Medium or Hard options within the same bed model. The final feel comes from the combination of springs and mattress topper.
A complete bed or a new mattress?
If your existing bed frame is in good condition, a spring mattress can be a suitable starting point for renewing your bed. Check the new mattress's dimensions and compatibility with the base.
